    Comments

In 1923 Friesz took part in the new Salon des Tuileries and began a series of nudes. He spent the summer on the Mediterranean as usual and invited his artist colleague, the sculptor Charles Despiau, to Toulon. There he continued painting nudes with his model at the time, "Andrée". The present painting probably dates from this period

The two female nudes, shown in front view and as a back piece, are flanked by strong tree trunks. Their natural-coloured incarnate parts subtly allow them to almost merge with the surrounding nature, capturing a moment of intimate intimacy
