In very nice overall condition, on new stretcher. Some stains, mostly water stains
After the First World War, Robert Delaunay and his wife, the artist Sonia Delaunay-Terk, returned to Paris in the early 1920s and moved into a flat at 19 Boulevard Malesherbes. In Paris, they socialised with many poets and musicians and came into contact with Surrealism. They were friends with Louis Aragon, Jean Cocteau and Igor Stravinsky and received the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky, for example. Already in exile in Portugal, Delaunay discovered portraiture as a new form and perfected the genre in Paris - often by painting friends and their surroundings.
The painting of Igor Stravinsky offered here is certainly one of the most impressive of these portraits: the musician is unmistakably rendered, composed with simple brushstrokes

In sehr schöner Gesamterhaltung, auf neuem Chassis. Einige Fleckchen, meist Wasserfleckchen
