Comments

Jewish weddings recur in Chagall’s works in many variants. In the present sunset version, the mystical animal is in the centre; it symbolises constant inspiration permanently renewing itself. The bridal couple under the chuppah (canopy) floats over the houses of Vitebsk, surrounded by happy musicians. At the bottom of the picture, the artist himself reads in his own "Book of Life"
