The plaster model of the work was created in 1934 and Ernst Barlach gave it to his friend, the collector Hermann F. Reemtsma, Hamburg (CR No. 555). The unique posthumous edition of 12 numbered casts was not made until 1979. No bronzes of this figure were cast during Barlach's lifetime. For Barlach, the sculptures in wood were of great importance, the bronze sculptures, on the other hand, played a much lesser role in his work

Erläuterungen

1934 entstand das Werkmodell in Gips, das Ernst Barlach seinem Freund, dem Sammler Hermann F. Reemtsma, Hamburg, schenkte (WK Nr. 555). Die einmalige posthume Auflage von 12 nummerierten Güssen entstand erst 1979. Zu Barlachs Lebzeiten wurden keine Bronzen dieser Figur gegossen. Für Barlach waren die Skulpturen aus Holz von grosser Wichtigkeit, die Bronzeplastiken hingegen spielten eine viel geringere Rolle in seinem Schaffen
