Das Thema der Kreuzigung nahm Amiet im Verlauf seines Schaffens immer wieder von neuem auf. Die Ausstellung 1921 in Basel verzeichnet alleine bereits 16 kleinformatige Kreuzigungen. Das vorliegende Werk dürfte darunter gewesen sein
