On grey toned paper, mounted on cardboard. The backing cardboard slightly browned, traces of an old mounting. In fine overall condition
When the German troops marched into Paris on 14 June 1940 at the latest, it became clear that Kandinsky's return to Germany would no longer be possible. He remained in Paris until his death in 1944 and created 144 paintings and 208 watercolours and gouaches at his last place of work. Will Grohmann wrote in 1958: "The works of the Paris years have been described as a superior synthesis". Despite the unrest and tragedy of the times, the artist lived "in another world". He produced works such as the sheet offered here, which radiate a "solemn calm". By means of spraying techniques and the finest glazes in the colours, an unbelievably plastic-spatial effect is created

In schöner Gesamterhaltung
