    Comments

Camille Corot came from a wealthy merchant family that financed a so-called "Grand Tour" to Italy in 1825-1828 in his late 20s. This is probably how he came to the picturesque town of Civita Castellana, 56 km north of Rome, whose old town is situated on a rocky plateau overlooking the deep valleys of the Rio Maggiore and the Rio Filetto. Corot depicted the steep rock formations several times in his works
