Marc Chagall dedicated numerous paintings to the topos of love and the family. The lovers lie next to the bouquet of flowers that promises inspiration. Above the couple flies the rooster, which iconographically stands for the artist as a sign of family and permanence. In the distance, indicated by a few strokes, the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral are visible on the left edge of the picture. An exciting composition with dynamic pictorial division and tender, glazed colouring
