On cream-coloured wove paper with round watermark VERITABLE PAPIER D’ARCHES FIN, individual pin holes at the edges, traces of an old mount on the back. Fresh in colours and in immaculate overall condition
In the summer of 1948, Chagall finally settled in France, first in the outskirts of Paris, then in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the Côte d’Azur in 1949. This work depicts lovers over the blue coast of southern France at full moon, together with an impressively large and vibrantly coloured rooster, watching carefully the past, the present and the future
