In the 1980s, Warhol began accepting commissions for advertising campaigns from various companies. Some critics noted that he was basically coming full circle and returning to where he had started as a commercial illustrator in the 1950s. Warhol disagreed and countered that he "was always a commercial artist". The French mineral water company Perrier commissioned him to do a series of 40 works featuring the iconic, legendary "club bottles". The resulting advertising campaign was awarded the "Grand Prix de l'Affiche Française" in 1983. It features printed line drawings of the bottle contours in contrasting colours that stand out against larger areas of colour
