Marc Chagall commissioned Charles Sorlier to lithographically reproduce original works for individual sheets, and they were printed by Mourlot in Paris. The basis for the present print is a maquette that the artist created for a fragment of the glass windows of Metz Cathedral. This motif was also used as a poster for the exhibition in Nice "Marc Chagall, Maquettes pour l'œuvre monumental" at the Musée national du message biblique
