    Comments

With the "odalisques", numerous artists took the opportunity to depict lightly clad ladies in their works. Nudity in itself was long frowned upon; ways were therefore sought to nevertheless realise it artistically. Matisse took up the theme of the "harem ladies" early on in his painting, drawing and graphic oeuvre. The present drawing was probably made in Nice, mostly directly in front of the model. It captivates with its fine stroke and successful proportions
