In perfect condition, on laid paper, with part of the watermark "[[DAMBRI] COURT [FRERES]" (Reed/Shapiro wtermarks 5)
In the years 1876-1877 Degas created 37 monotypes (drawings in printer's ink on a copper plate, intended to be pulled once or twice, the prints partly reworked with pastel). The 37 works were all intended as illustrations for Ludovic Halévy's novel "Les petites Cardinal"
Sold as one lot in the estate auction of the graphic work on 22 and 23 November 1918 and in the auction at the Hôtel Drouot on 17 March 1928

Degas schuf in den Jahren 1876-1877 37 Monotypien, Zeichnungen in Druckerschwärze auf eine Kupferplatte, zum einmaligen oder zweimaligen Abzug gedacht, die Drucke teilweise mit Pastell überarbeitet. Alle 37 Arbeiten waren vorgesehen als Illustration zum Roman von Ludovic Halévy "Les petites Cardinal"
In der Nachlassauktion der Graphik vom 22. und 23. November 1918 als ein Lot verkauft, desgleichen in der Auktion im Hôtel Drouot, Paris, vom 17. März 1928
