In this small-format representation of a wedding, painted in bright, spherical colors, Chagall artistically processes this important event in life that is to be celebrated. The bridal couple laid out in green and white under the red chuppah (canopy) is in the center of the community, the houses of Vitebsk are easy to see. The bride and groom hold the life-giving bouquet in their hands and are surrounded by celebrating musicians and symbols of fertility and life, such as the sun, the mystical animal, the rooster or the fish

In dieser in leuchtenden, sphärischen Farben gemalten, kleinformatigen Darstellung einer Hochzeit verarbeitet Chagall bildnerisch dieses wichtige und zu zelebrierende Ereignis im Leben. Das in Grün-Weiss angelegte Brautpaar unter der roten Chuppa (Baldachin) steht im Zentrum der Gemeinde, die Häuser von Witebsk sind gut zu erkennen. In den Händen halten die Brautleute den lebensspendenden Blumenstrauss und sind umringt von feiernden Musikern sowie Symbolen für die Fruchtbarkeit und das Leben, etwa die Sonne, das mystische Tier, der Hahn oder der Fisch
