In his studio on Lake Orta, the artist intensified landscape painting from 1954 onwards, which, however, he simplified more and more, and finally dissolved and abstracted. In 1959 he created his first, purely abstract painting. From then on, working with geometries, numbers and proportions shaped his work, such as the use of the "golden section". He calls the "spazio mentale", the intellectual space, his design principle, which follows more intuitive than radical-constructivist rules. The present painting is a tribute to the composer Erik Satie; "Counterpoint" is also simply referred to as "counterpart". A very early, abstract painting, typical of the fine, almost glazing application of paint

Erläuterungen

In seinem Atelier am Orta-See intensiviert der Künstler ab 1954 die Landschaftsmalerei, die er jedoch immer mehr vereinfacht, und schliesslich auflöst und abstrahiert. 1959 entsteht sein erstes, rein abstraktes Gemälde. Die Arbeit mit Geometrien, Zahlen- und Proportionsverhältnissen prägen fortan sein Schaffen, etwa die Verwendung des "Goldenen Schnitts". Er nennt den "spazio mentale", den geistigen Raum, sein gestalterisches Prinzip, das jedoch eher intuitiven, denn radikal-konstruktivistischen Regeln folgt. Das vorliegende Gemälde ist eine Hommage an den Komponisten Erik Satie; "Kontrapunkt" wird vereinfacht auch als "Gegenstimme" bezeichnet.
