Comments

Anker repeatedly represented reading farmers from his immediate surroundings in Ins and wanted to show that education was also important in the rural population. The farmer with a tobacco pipe in the picture at hand reads the news in depth in the liberal-conservative "Seeländer Boten", founded in 1850 and finally published as the "Bieler Tagblatt" from 1904 onwards

Erläuterungen

Anker stellte immer wieder lesende Bauern aus seiner unmittelbaren Umgebung in Ins dar und wollte damit aufzeigen, dass Bildung auch in der Landbevölkerung wichtig war. Der Bauer mit Tabakpfeife auf dem vorliegenden Bild liest vertieft die Nachrichten im 1850 gegründeten, liberal-konservativen "Seeländer Boten", der ab 1904 schliesslich als "Bieler Tagblatt" erschienen ist
