Commentaires

Robert Therrien lived and worked in Los Angeles. In addition to his large-scale sculptures and spatial installations, he also devoted himself to printmaking, photography, and drawing. Characteristic of his works on paper is the reduction to simple, clear forms, which, in their interplay and material presence, evoke a variety of associations and open up space for viewers' own perceptions and interpretations.

The support, which has been worked on by the artist, is the reverse side of the engraving ‘Pompeian dance, from the original painting in the collection of Judge George Hoadley’. The support itself is mounted on a colour lithograph ‘Notre Dame’ by Charles Moudin.

Erläuterungen

Robert Therrien lebte und arbeitete in Los Angeles. Neben seinen grossformatigen Skulpturen und Rauminstallationen widmete er sich ebenso der Druckgrafik, Fotografie und Zeichnung. Charakteristisch für seine Arbeiten auf Papier ist die Reduktion auf einfache, klare Formen, die in ihrem Zusammenspiel und ihrer materiellen Präsenz vielfältige Assoziationen hervorrufen und den Betrachtenden Raum für eigene Wahrnehmungen und Interpretationen eröffnen.

Die vom Künstler bearbeitete Unterlage ist die Rückseite vom Stich «Pompeian dance, from the original painting in the collection of Judge George Hoadley». Die Unterlage selbst ist montiert auf der Farblithografie von Charles Moudin.
