The Basel painter Martin Alfred Christ was strongly influenced by Mediterranean landscapes and motifs. From the 1920s onwards, he regularly spent time in Mallorca, which became a central place in his life and work and where he later also died. As can be seen in the present work, his oeuvre is characterized by a southern atmosphere and a warm colour palette of strong earth tones, ochre, green, yellow, and light blue. The composition conveys a quiet, harmonious, and almost timeless mood.

Der Basler Maler Martin Alfred Christ war stark von mediterranen Landschaften und Motiven geprägt. Ab den 1920er-Jahren verbrachte er regelmässig Zeit auf Mallorca, das zu einem zentralen Ort seines Lebens und Schaffens wurde und wo er später auch verstarb. Wie auch im vorliegenden Werk sichtbar, zeichnet sich sein Œuvre durch eine südliche Atmosphäre und eine warme Farbpalette aus kräftigen Erdtönen, Ocker, Grün, Gelb und Hellblau aus. Die Komposition vermittelt eine stille, harmonische und nahezu zeitlose Stimmung.
