Ferdinand Gehr is one of the most important innovators of sacred art and church painting in Switzerland. Throughout his career, he repeatedly returned to the motif of the Madonna and Child.

Gehr's style is strongly influenced by the formal language of Modernism and Expressionism. The figures are reduced to the essentials, the colours are applied in flat, rich areas. A poetically simple depiction of the artist's recurring motif.

Erläuterungen

Ferdinand Gehr ist einer der bedeutendsten Erneuerer der sakralen Kunst und Kirchenmalerei in der Schweiz. Im Laufe seines Schaffens griff er immer wieder das Motiv der Madonna mit Kind auf.

Gehrs Stil orientiert sich stark an der Formensprache der Moderne und des Expressionismus. Die Figuren sind auf das Wesentliche reduziert, die Farben flächig und satt aufgetragen. Eine poetisch-schlichte Darstellung des immer wiederkehrenden Motivs des Künstlers.
