Commentaires

Circus scenes, clowns, and acrobats appear repeatedly in the oeuvre of Camille Bombois. As a young man, he himself worked as a carnival wrestler and circus worker, and therefore knew this milieu very well. Depicted are two clowns peeking out from behind a green curtain. The use of saturated colours and the sharp contouring of the faces make the figures appear extremely three-dimensional. The close cropping of the image creates an intimate atmosphere; the figures' gazes are directed forward toward an imaginary audience.

Erläuterungen

Zirkusszenen, Clowns und Akrobaten kommen im Œuvre von Camille Bombois immer wieder vor. Er selbst war als junger Mann als Jahrmarktringer und Zirkusarbeiter tätig und kannte dieses Milieu daher bestens. Dargestellt sind zwei Clowns, die zwischen einem grünen Vorhang hervorschauen. Durch den Einsatz gesättigter Farben und die scharfe Konturierung der Gesichter wirken die Figuren äusserst plastisch. Der enge Bildausschnitt schafft eine intime Atmosphäre; die Blicke der Figuren richten sich nach vorne zu einem imaginären Publikum.
