Amiet repeatedly returned to the theme of the crucifixion throughout his career. The artist reached the pinnacle with the two wall paintings created in 1931, "Kreuzigung" on the left and "Auferstehung" on the right of the choir in the church "St. Martin" in Seeberg.

Das Thema der Kreuzigung nahm Amiet im Verlauf seines Schaffens immer wieder von Neuem auf. Den Höhepunkt erreichte der Künstler mit den beiden 1931 entstandenen Wandgemälden "Kreuzigung" links und "Auferstehung" rechts des Chors in der Kirche "St. Martin" in Seeberg.
