Sheet slightly browned in the paper and minimally stained, with studio traces and signs of age, traces of old mounting on the reverse. In good condition

Commentaires

In this lithograph, Munch portrays the aged Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906), isolated at a table in the Grand Café in Kristiania. While people pass by the window in the background, the dramatist appears detached and introspective in front of the curtain. Munch does not show Ibsen in the limelight of the public, but as an aged, intellectual authority amid worldly emptiness. The scene combines portrait and atmosphere, forming a quiet symbol of intellectual solitude in a social space.

A very rare early impression, printed by Lassally in Berlin on Japan paper.

Blatt etwas im Papier gebräunt und minimal fleckig, mit Atelier- und Altersspuren, rückseitig mit Montierungsspuren. In guter Erhaltung

Erläuterungen

In dieser Lithographie porträtiert Munch den greisen Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906), isoliert an einem Tisch im Grand Café in Kristiania. Während im Hintergrund Menschen vor dem Fenster vorbeiziehen, wirkt der Dramatiker vor dem Vorhang entrückt und in sich gekehrt. Munch zeigt Ibsen nicht im Glanz der Öffentlichkeit, sondern als gealterte, geistige Autorität inmitten mondäner Leere. Die Szene verbindet Porträt und Atmosphäre und bildet ein stilles Sinnbild für geistige Einsamkeit im gesellschaftlichen Raum.

Ein sehr seltener Frühdruck, bei Lassally in Berlin auf Japan gedruckt.
