    Commentaires

In 'Modellstudie' Munch shows a bare-breasted woman sitting frontally on a bed in a quiet, almost absent posture. The depiction is simple and unidealised, neither erotic nor classical. Munch is less interested in the body as form than in the emotional state of the sitter. With a fine, searching line, the model becomes a vehicle for inner tension, vulnerability, and quiet contemplation, far removed from any academic nude tradition.

A wonderful impression by Wilhelm Felsing of a later state.
