Commentaires

In this early work, the then only early-twenties Domenico Gnoli combines contrasting forms into a harmonious composition. The circular elements and the monochrome, terracotta-coloured background are characteristic of the artist's early creative phase. The superimposition of unequal forms and the pairing of drawing and painting techniques, on the other hand, point to the surrealist path that Gnoli would already take in the early 1960s.

Erläuterungen

In diesem Frühwerk fügt der damals erst Anfang 20-jährige Domenico Gnoli kontrastierende Formen zu einer in sich stimmigen Komposition zusammen. Die kreisförmigen Elemente und der monochrome, terracottafarbene Hintergrund sind charakteristisch für die frühe Schaffensphase des Künstlers. Die Überlagerung ungleicher Formen und die Paarung zeichnerischer und malerischer Technik verweisen hingegen auf den surrealistischen Weg, den Gnoli bereits in den frühen 60er-Jahren einschlagen wird.
