Condition

On the original stretcher, in the old nailing. Slightly rubbed by the frame at the edge of the image, with paint losses in the centre at the bottom. The generally very thin oil paint layer allows the canvas to show through. In very good condition

Commentaires

The painting, described as an oil sketch in the catalogue raisonné, is a rediscovery. The existence of the work was known to scholars, but neither its measurements, its subject, nor its current location could be determined. The painting was created during Edouard Vallet's trip to Italy in 1905, during which he depicted various detailed views of the city of Chioggia, a port city on the Adriatic in the Italian region of Veneto. This landscape-format work is the only one in the series to show a panoramic view of the city.

Auf dem originalen Chassis, in der alten Nagelung. Am Bildrand leicht durch den Rahmen berieben, unten mittig mit Farbausbrüchen. Der allgemein sehr dünne Ölfarbenauftrag lässt die Leinwand durchblicken. In sehr guter Erhaltung

Erläuterungen

Das Gemälde, im Werkkatalog als Ölskizze bezeichnet, ist eine Wiederentdeckung. Die Existenz des Werkes war der Forschung bekannt, jedoch konnten weder die Masse, die Darstellung noch der aktuelle Standort ermittelt werden. Das Gemälde entstand auf Edouard Vallets Italienreise im Jahr 1905, auf welcher er verschiedene Detailansichten der Stadt Chioggia, einer Hafenstadt an der Adria in der italienischen Region Venetien, darstellte. Dieses querformatige Werk zeigt als einziges dieser Serie eine Panorama-Ansicht der Stadt.
