Fresh in colour and in impeccable condition
At the centre of the composition are two reclining, nude female bodies, whose contours are drawn in expressive black brushstrokes across the entire picture format. The linework is spontaneous, almost sketch-like, yet appears deliberately placed—a method Le Corbusier often used to depict corporeality, movement, and emotion in an abstract way. The drawing is laid over collage elements made of brown packing paper and paper scraps in green and orange. Beneath the green, there is also an invitation card from 1960 to a lecture at the Sorbonne, which Le Corbusier himself gave to students. In this lecture, the architect and painter spoke about contemporary programmes for equipping the machine society.
