Gercken was only aware of the present copy in the first state. In the second state, trimmed on the left, the woodcut is published in volume I of Gustav Schiefler's catalogue raisonné of prints on p. 116.
The angular linework, radical division of space, and striking light-dark contrast make it clear how Kirchner not only depicts a landscape, but also captures an intense feeling of nature—wind, waves, and vastness—in a powerful, expressionist graphic style.

Die kantige Linienführung, die radikale Flächenaufteilung und der markante Hell‑Dunkel‑Kontrast machen deutlich, wie Kirchner nicht nur eine Landschaft abbildet, sondern ein intensives Naturgefühl - Wind, Wellen und Weite - in kraftvollem, expressionistischem Graphikstil einfängt.
