Private collection Switzerland
With impasto paint on both sides, partly the painting cardboard is visible. In fresh colours and very good condition. In a frame selected by the artist
The double-sided oil painting was probably given by Amiet to Frida Ischi-Flückiger shortly after its completion. In 1908, she opened the post office on the Oschwand as postmistress, while her husband, Johann Ischi, worked as a postman. The work belongs to the important creative phase of the artist around 1907/1908, in which still lifes with flowers and fruit play a major role. The vase on the front of the work also appears in the oil painting "Blumenstillleben mit Astern" from 1908 (online catalogue raisonné no. 1908.53). Since 1907, Amiet had been intensively engaging with van Gogh's sunflower paintings, especially with his painting style. This is evident in both works, recto and verso.
