Commentaires

In this painting, Dorothea Sharp captures the essence of a summery meadow, dotted with daisies. In the centre, two children can be seen walking through the tall grass: a girl in a white dress with a sun hat and a small boy. A third figure can be seen in the background, possibly an adult companion or another child. The scene takes place in a forest clearing and radiates tranquillity and light-heartedness.

Sharp's brushwork is lively and spontaneous. With short, impasto brushstrokes, she captures the play of light and shadow on the grass and flowers. The bright, luminous colours give the painting a friendly, almost dreamlike atmosphere typical of Sharp's work, which is strongly influenced by French Impressionism, especially by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot.

Erläuterungen

In dem angebotenen Gemälde hält Dorothea Sharp eine mit Margeriten übersäte sommerliche Wiese fest. Im Mittelpunkt stehen zwei Kinder - ein Mädchen in weissem Kleid mit Sonnenhut und ein kleiner Junge -, die durchs hohe Gras schreiten. Im Hintergrund ist eine dritte Figur zu erkennen, möglicherweise eine erwachsene Begleitperson oder ein weiteres Kind. Die Szene spielt sich in einer Waldlichtung ab und strahlt Ruhe und Unbeschwertheit aus.

Sharps Pinselstrich ist lebhaft und spontan. Mit kurzen, pastosen Farbaufträgen fängt sie das Spiel von Licht und Schatten auf Gras und Blüten ein. Die hellen, leuchtenden Farben verleihen dem Bild eine freundliche, beinahe träumerische Atmosphäre - typisch für Sharps Werk, das stark vom französischen Impressionismus beeinflusst ist, insbesondere von Claude Monet und Berthe Morisot.
