Commentaires

Adriaen van de Velde was the son of the seascape painter Willem van de Velde the Elder and the younger brother of Willem van de Velde the Younger. He was only granted a short creative period of 18 years. His mostly southern landscapes with shepherds and cattle in Italian surroundings suggest that he spent time in Italy, although there is no documentary evidence of this.
