Condition

Paper slightly browned, slightly roughened in places, with a horizontal crease in the centre. In good condition

Commentaires

Giovanni Segantini died on 18 September 1899. Giacometti made a drawing of him on his deathbed, from which he developed an oil painting (WK no. 1899.07) and this etching. In a letter to Oscar Miller dated 3 October 1899, Giacometti wrote: "Als Radierung wird meine erste Arbeit der Kopf Segantinis sein". Extremely rare early print, the only known signed copy to date.

Erläuterungen

Giovanni Segantini starb am 18. September 1899. Giacometti zeichnete ihn auf dem Totenbett und entwickelte daraus ein Ölbild (WK Nr. 1899.07) und die vorliegende Radierung. In einem Brief an Oscar Miller vom 3. Oktober 1899 erwähnte Giacometti: "Als Radierung wird meine erste Arbeit der Kopf Segantinis sein". Äusserst seltener Frühdruck, bis anhin das einzig bekannt gewordene signierte Exemplar.
