Condition

The sheet corroded and broken at the height of the shoulder, probably in accordance with the artist's intention. The work is in a fixed steel frame and has not been unframed

Commentaires

Not Vital settled in New York in 1974 and acquired a studio on Broadway in 1978. There he created large works with figures. The models were friends, acquaintances or even strangers. They sat on a chair or sofa and were usually depicted frontally. Most of the works are made of paper, which was often cut up or torn and reassembled. The background is usually neutral.

Erläuterungen

Not Vital liess sich 1974 in New York nieder und erwarb 1978 ein Studio am Broadway. Dort beschäftigte er sich mit grossformatigen Figurenbildern. Modelle waren Freunde, Bekannte oder auch Unbekannte. Sie nahmen auf einem Stuhl oder Sofa Platz und wurden in der Regel frontal dargestellt. Die meisten Arbeiten sind aus Papier, das oft zerschnitten oder zerrissen und wieder montiert wurde. Der Hintergrund ist meist neutral.
