"An overview of Markus Raetz's wide-ranging oeuvre shows that landscape and nature are among the most important points of reference in the development of his artistic concept. The preoccupation with landscape and nature runs like a common thread through all phases and also through all media of his art," writes Stephan Kunz in 2013 in his text "Bossibuland. Landschaft im Werk von Markus Raetz". In 1976, he created a series of coastal landscapes, sea and cloud paintings from Ramatuelle, which he executed in diluted ink and watercolour, as well as a large group of brush drawings entitled "Im Bereich des Möglichen", in which the artist recorded his impressions after a trip through the rainy Swiss Mittelland.
The present object can be seen in the context of this series. Raetz does not present us with a concrete landscape image, but merely the memory of the landscape and the mood it evoked. Both the title "Im Bereich des Möglichen" and "in etwa" (roughly) suggest vagueness.
