Commentaires

The present work was shown in Berger's first solo exhibition at the Musée Rath in Geneva in 1911 (cat. no. 68). Renowned artists and collectors such as Josef Müller and Oscar Miller from Solothurn, who had been made aware of the exhibition by Ferdinand Hodler, acquired paintings there. The work shows the small island at the mouth of the Rhône in Geneva, which is named after the Genevan writer and philosopher of the Enlightenment Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778).

Das vorliegende Werk wurde 1911 in Bergers erster Einzelausstellung im Musée Rath in Genf (Kat. Nr. 68) gezeigt. Namhafte Künstler und Sammler wie die Solothurner Josef Müller und Oscar Miller, die durch Ferdinand Hodler auf die Ausstellung aufmerksam gemacht worden waren, erwarben dort Gemälde. Das Werk zeigt die kleine Insel an der Rhônemündung in Genf, die nach dem Genfer Schriftsteller und Philosophen der Aufklärung Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) benannt ist.
