Flowers play a leading role in Marc Chagall's oeuvre. The bouquet stands as an ephemeral source of inspiration, blurring the boundary between the exterior and interior. However, the artist also uses the bouquet to express his artistic identity as a draughtsman and sculptor; his flowers become real, almost three-dimensional, luminous "fireworks". Here, a lush bouquet floats above the sea in front of the coast. The scene is bathed in atmospheric blue, two lovers enjoy the inspirational power of the glowing flowers. A successful homage to love and overwhelming nature.
