Condition

On strong, brownish cardboard, with mounted passepartout. Traces of an old mounting on the reverse. In good overall condition

Commentaires

Fernand Léger's compositions are repeatedly influenced by murals, which he studied intensively, especially in the USA. The strong colours and stylised protagonists point to a coming generation of artists, and it is not without reason that Léger is also called the father of Pop Art. The present gouache is a preparatory work for the painting "Profil aux deux couleurs (Figure VI)" (Bauquier 1287).

Erläuterungen

Fernand Légers Kompositionen sind immer wieder von Wandmalereien beeinflusst, mit denen er sich v. a. in den USA intensiv auseinandersetzte. Die kräftigen Farben und die stilisierten Protagonistinnen und Protagonisten verweisen auf eine kommende Künstlergeneration, nicht zu Unrecht wird Léger auch als Vater der Pop-Art bezeichnet. Die vorliegende Gouache ist eine Vorarbeit für das Gemälde "Profil aux deux couleurs (Figure VI)" (Bauquier 1287)
