Condition

On wove paper (papier vélin), slightly browned, with lightstruck, mounted on cardboard. Traces of old mounting at the back. Colours fresh, in a clean overall condition.

Commentaires

During the Second World War, Fernand Léger was in exile in the USA from 1940 to 1945. He first taught at Yale University, later at the famous Mills College in Oakland. He returned to France in December 1945. The present gouache was a preparatory work for the painting "Le vase vert" (Bauqiuer 1247), a very painterly realization

Erläuterungen

Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs weilte Fernand Léger von 1940 bis 1945 im Exil in den USA. Er unterrichtete zunächst an der Yale University, später am berühmten Mills College in Oakland. Im Dezember 1945 kehrte er nach Frankreich zurück. Die vorliegende Gouache war eine Vorarbeit für das Gemälde "Le vase vert" (Bauqiuer 1247), eine sehr malerische Umsetzung
