A family on horseback. In the background, Vitebsk with the characteristic houses on the hillside, a pale moon illuminating the scene. The painting is a symbol of Chagall’s constant "being on the move". A glistening bouquet of flowers pointing the way on the right stands for the inspiration that awaits the artist in the new place

Das Gemälde ist ein Symbol für Chagalls ständiges "Unterwegssein". Der "wegweisende", gleissende Blumenstrauss rechts steht für die Inspiration, die am neuen Ort auf den Künstler wartet
