Commentaires

Flowers play a key role in Chagall’s œuvre. The bouquet is an ephemeral source of inspiration, blurring and even breaking the boundaries between exterior and interior space. The artist also uses the bouquet to express his artistic identity as a draughtsman. Created in the village of Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland in January/February of 1971, the whirling bouquet of flowers is a playful harbinger of the arrival of spring and summer, while the sun shines on the still snow-covered slopes. An intimate pair of lovers celebrates life in a firework of colours. An impressive large-format composition

Erläuterungen

Blumen nehmen im Œuvre von Chagall eine Hauptrolle ein. Der Strauss steht als ephemere Inspirationsquelle, die die Grenze vom Aussen- zum Innenraum fliessend macht und sogar aufhebt. Der Künstler benutzt das Bouquet aber auch, um seiner künstlerischen Identität als Zeichner Ausdruck zu verleihen. Im Berner Oberländer Dorf Gstaad im Januar/Februar 1971 entstanden, kündigt der Blumenstrauss wirbelnd und verspielt Frühling und Sommer an, während die Sonne die noch verschneiten Hänge bescheint. Ein inniges Liebespaar feiert das Leben in einem Feuerwerk von Farben. Eine grossformatige, sehr eindrückliche Komposition
