Commentaires

In 1899, the artist planned a series of lithographs under the title "Courses", but completed only 4 depictions, of which the present sheet was the only one to appear in an edition. At the instigation of the publisher Pierrefort, the Parisian printer Henry Stern printed one edition of the black stone alone and another edition, supplemented with colored stones, in 100 copies each, plus 12 more copies on solid Japan. Erläuterungen

Der Künstler plante 1899 eine Folge von Lithographien unter dem Titel "Courses", vollendete aber nur 4 Darstellungen, von denen das vorliegende Blatt als einziges in einer Auflage erschien. Auf Veranlassung des Verlegers Pierrefort wurden vom Pariser Drucker Henry Stern eine Auflage des schwarzen Steines allein und eine weitere Auflage, ergänzt mit Farbsteinen, in je 100 Exemplaren gedruckt, zusätzlich 12 weitere Exemplare auf festem Japan. Die komplette Auflage von gesamthaft 212 Exemplaren erschien unsigniert und nicht nummeriert. Für die restlichen Sujets der geplanten Folge "Courses", siehe Wittrock 310, 311 und 312
