Commentaires

Serge Poliakoff is at the height of his artistic career, all museums and galleries of note are aiming to hold exhibitions. In 1958 alone, eight solo exhibitions take place and he participates in 14 group shows throughout Europe and the USA. In 1958 several series were created in similar shades of color, such as in red, blue, yellow or green. After a rather playful polychrome work phase, the artist now experimented for a short time with almost monochrome compositions. He often worked on panels allowing for a much more pastose application of paint. A very fine work from the second half of the 1950s

Erläuterungen

Serge Poliakoff ist auf dem Höhepunkt seines Schaffens, alle namhaften Museen und Galerien bemühen sich um Ausstellungen. Allein im Jahre 1958 finden acht Einzelausstellungen statt, und er nimmt an 14 Gruppenausstellungen in ganz Europa und in den USA teil. 1958 entstanden mehrere Serien in ähnlichen Farbtönen, so in Rot, Blau, Gelb oder eben Grün. Nach einer eher verspielten Phase der Polychromie experimentierte der Künstler nun für kurze Zeit mit fast monochromen Kompositionen. Dabei arbeitete er öfters auch auf Holzplatten, was einen deutlich pastoseren Farbauftrag zuliess. Ein sehr schönes Werk aus der zweiten Hälfte der 1950er Jahre
