Commentaires

Franz Gertsch gave up painting for a few years in 1986 in favor of woodcut. With the series "Natascha" he began working on his incomparable woodcuts. Each print was pulled by hand in collaboration with Nik Hausmann, always varying in color and intensity of impression, so that each print is virtually unique. A total of 39 copies were printed of the present sheet in different color variations in a multi-step process, 6 trial proofs and 33 edition prints. Individual copies were destroyed by the artist after printing. The very complex printing of this sheet represents one of the great achievements of the art of the modern woodcut

Erläuterungen

Franz Gertsch gab 1986 die Malerei für ein paar Jahre zu Gunsten des Holzschnitts auf. Mit der Serie "Natascha" begann er seine unvergleichlichen Holzschnitte zu realisieren. Jeder Druck wurde handwerklich unter Mitarbeit von Nik Hausmann abgezogen, stets variiert in der Farbgebung und Druckintensität, so dass es sich bei den Abzügen faktisch um Unikate handelt. Vom vorliegenden Blatt wurden in verschiedenen Farbvarianten und in mehreren Arbeitsvorgängen insgesamt 39 Exemplare gedruckt, 6 Probedrucke und 33 Auflagedrucke. Einzelne Exemplare wurden vom Künstler nach dem Druck zerstört. Das im Stechen und im Drucken sehr aufwendige Blatt stellt eine der grossen Leistungen moderner Holzschneidekunst dar
