    Comments

Francine Torrent (born 1933) was a young television journalist in 1964 who worked for "Pathé" and the programme "Chronique de France". When she arrived at Giacometti's studio to interview the sculptor, she immediately began to pester Giacometti with questions. Instead of answering the many questions, Giacometti only said: "Stop asking me all these questions, sit down, pose for me, don't move and be quiet, please." (From the memoirs of Comtesse Setsuko Klossowska de Rola, widow of the artist Balthus, in: Christie's, New York, 9 May 2007, lot 46)
With characteristic wit, Giacometti titled the sculpture with a play on words: "Madame Télé". Francine Torrent was able to interview Giacometti for a short television programme in 1965 and the programme was broadcast in 1966. The depiction of a stranger to Giacometti, as in the present bronze, is very rare and unusual, since family members or good friends usually served him as models

    Erläuterungen

Francine Torrent (geb.
