Auktion 277 : Marc Chagall - Forty Paintings 17.06.2022

1973 marked the opening of the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Nice, the first national museum in France in honour of a living artist. In the same year, the first time after 51 years, he travelled to Moscowwhere his works were shown in a celebrated exhibition. It was also a particular honour when in 1977 his retrospective opened at the Louvre, only the second one dedicated to a living artist. Marc Chagall remained artistically active up to a very old age, working daily in his studio. Living a fulfilled life, he passed away in his sleep on 28 March 1985, at the age of almost 98.
